Would anyone in the Nashville/Murfreesboro/Middle TN area be up for an adventure maybe when the weather gets warmer?

I don't know a lot of people around here who are into exploring abandoned places. I'd like to change that.

I also don't know of a great number of places around here. I would like to change that as well. Maybe we could even just road trip to one of the more well-known sites.

Sadly, I'm in east TN, and have the same problem. Maybe people will have some suggestions that aren't too far from where I'm at. A few hours isn't too far for a day trip. :P

All you ever hear about around here is to old Lakeshore Asylum, and no one seems to be able to even agree if the old facility is even still there or where it is, from all the digging I've done. :/

Is that the asylum that was supposedly in Chattanooga? I read about it a while back and am even familiar with the part of Chattanooga where it was supposedly located. I can't find anything though! I remember reading something about the foundation being still there, but who knows. It could be long gone.

You may not even be talking about the same place as me. Regardless, a lot of places like that seem to have slipped off the map. Weird.

No. Lakeshore in Knoxville was in the vicinity of Ashville Hwy. On the left somewhere (I *think*). I think it was called something like Eastern State prior to being called Lakeshore.

Out towards Grainger County there is an old cement{?} plant that s abandonded that was AWESOME. There is also the remains of an old cabin and school bus in the Leah Lakes area. I may be able to find them on Google Maps if ya'll are interested. (I grew up in east TN)

Well I found the cabin and bus location

I think I can get you there. If you travel out Rutledge Pike from Knoxville towards Blain you would take a left on Accommodation Road when this road intersects with Lea Lake Road you take a right and almost immediately bear left

on the map http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&rls=com.microsoft:en-us&resnum=0&q=2300%20Lea%20lake%20road%2C%20Blaine%20TN&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl
go to street view and click to turn left 3 times and it will show you the road. The cabin was up that small drive. The road bends to the right and the bus was in a clearing on the left, the cabin was a short distance futher on the right.

It has been several years since I have been there. I can' imaging it would be gone though.

That looks easy enough to find. It looks hella secluded, maybe secluded enough that there's no squatters or anything. I bet everything is still there. I would love to see it. I'm going to make a note of this and try to plan a trip when it's warmer.

That way we can all keep in touch and plan trips. I got a fair number of responses.

I'm posting this same comment for everyone.

East TN isn't too far. What town are you in?

Ohh, if I'm there over the summer (it's a long time away, but still!), I'd love to. There's a lot of abandoned places around where I lived, I'm pretty sure. Mostly farmhouses, but maybe a general store or two as well.

I used to live in that area. Down in Franklin (about 45 minutes south if you don't know where it is) there are some lovely abandoned buildings.

I lived in Bowling Green when I was a kid (like between 1968-70) and the first thing I thought of was CAVES! (spelunking, of course.)

Maybe, yeah! I'm in Nashville (Brentwood to be exact) and I'm pretty confident I'll be here for the summer. None of my friends are into abandoned places or anything, either, so it's good to know there are some people here who can appreciate a run down building. This could turn out to be really fun, let's keep in touch!

Hey, I'm in Murfreesboro and would definitely be into some exploring. I go to MTSU and I've always been curious about some of TN's abandoned sites/"weird" places (I'm originally from NJ). Keep in touch!

Hooray! One actual Murfreesboro person! :) I think it will be a learning experience for both of us. I used to be really into ghost hunting/research, but I never focused on just abandoned buildings. I would love to find anything around here.

I'll go with you sometime :) I don't know of a lot of places though. I'll try to come up with something before the weather gets warm. I don't update my journal anymore, but you can go to www.myspace.com/shannonczerwinski if you want to get an idea of what I'm like.

I always wanted to check out the awesome old hospital downtown, but now they're being made into condos. I guess at least they're not getting demolished...

I'll add you on MySpace as well.

There's an old hospital in downtown Nashville? I had no idea. It sucks that it's already being renovated, but like you said, it's better than tearing it down. I would love to check out an abandoned hospital.

I found a site that has a picture of the outside of the hospital. It's about halfway down the page. I have no idea why I kept referring to the hospital as "they" haha.

Oh nice. I need to at least drive by there and see what's going on. I bet the condos are going to be really neat once they're finished. What a great building.
