So, you might remember my last visit to a massive pink piece of architectural roadkill - on a favour by someone my mom knew.
Well, said person was kind enough to offer to show us another house, and really, who says no to a UrbEx excursion? Off we went!

Rumour has it this house has been abandoned for about twenty years now - though I have my doubts, for it looks rather well-kept all things considered. You'll see what I mean.

And worse, the electricity still works. o.O
Given we had to tamper a bit with the main switch, but still.

The kitchen was particularly awesome.

There were two staircases in the house, so we took the tiny one behind the kitchen as opposed to the main one - maybe we do enjoy sneaking into tight places and hitting our heads on the ceiling. Notice the ironing board holding the door. :)

Upstairs, we found two more bathrooms.

There was another fireplace downstairs, but since I couldn't manage to snap a decent picture of it, you get the upstairs one.

This is the hallway looking from the main staircase.

There were more bedrooms, but alas, they all looked the same all things considered. They all had pretty cute ceilings and lamps too, though!
Anyway, we eventually found another staircase to the attic.

Those are curtains. If you go back up you'll notice just how much these people must have loved curtains.
I'll leave you with that terrible attempt at humour, then, and hope you excuse my uncharacteristically un-verbose post. I just happened to waste all my words translating EU laws. :S
Thanks for looking, and have a nice day everyone!
xx

It always makes me sad to see such lovely places being left to rot.

Same here, it really saddens me when I think back to what these places must've been, and what they are now. :/

The other house, the pink one, is just amazing! Do you find many such big houses with beautiful decoration inside in Portugal?
March 29 2011, 11:29:07 UTC 1 year ago
Answering your question, though... I mean, there are hundreds of abandoned houses around here, both tiny and huge, the thing is the bigger and therefore richer ones are usually closed down, boarded windows and doors, the whole package. Most of our abandonment comes from legal issues with inheriting the houses, say... you have a palace and two kids, and chances are when you die, they won't care about the house because they're probably rich enough to move out to Lisbon or so. So the house falls down but it's technically still their property, meaning they still bother to keep it closed, usually even hiring caretakers to watch over the plot for them. It's quite sad, really, because people have no idea of what's quite literally rotting under their watch. There's a perfectly good example of this in one of my previous sets, you can find it by clicking the Portugal tag and scrolling down a bit (it's the one with the metallic doll thingy) - that house is full of furniture, beddings, curtains, clothes.... but the family's living in Lisbon and just doesn't care about the content, which is probably worth quite a few thousands. :/
Ah, and sorry for the huge reply, I wanted to take my point across! LOL

Thanks so much for taking a look! :D
And hell, I'd save it... if I wasn't already committed to saving every house I've ever visited ever. Not likely, but I'd sure love to. ^_^
