Ypsilanti Psychiatric Hospital..........

The old section of the building had been mostly stripped out by crews removing asbestos and salvaging large pipe work.

So many beautiful hallways.

Gurneys are left throughout the building.

No, I did not set this up.  This umbrella was just sitting open, outside of the seclusion rooms.

Bath tubs freak me out.

One has to wonder how many times that 'escape' button was pushed.

Files are left scattered everywhere, along with lots of porn.

More hallway.

This is outside of the theater.  Sorry I dont have any pictures from inside the theater.  It was a large room and just too dark for pictures.

My favorite hallway.

Did you read any of the notes? That would have been a top score for me, I'm fascinated by the idea of reading some insane dudes notes. I expect they're probably way more boring than I imagine though.

boring? not hardly. we found a box full of incedent reports. stuff like patients fighting to bee stings to some guy getting his penis caught in his zipper.

Oh man now I'm so jealous! I know the rule is "take only pictures, leave only footprints," but I'd so have taken a bunch home. I meant to say before, very nice shots btw :)

Bahaha, poor guy XD

A bit hard to believe that those papers are discarded on the floor like that. I guess I feel like, whether the patient is still alive or dead, its still someone's life on those pages.

I don't know about America, but it's certainly illegal to leave files around like that in the UK, they're supposed to be distroyed. Fundamentally, morally, I agree entirely with what you say. However, personally I'd just adore the chance to see into the life of a psychiatric inpatient! Curiosity killed the cat I guess ;)

AMAZING pictures.
What sort of emotional vibe were you picking up if any while walking through there?
Just looking at the pictures, I'm surprised what a heavy, suffocating feeling I get...
You captured a lot of great images-I was just in Michigan actually

to be honest, it was a very emotional experience for me. i mean this was people's entire lives. there was one ward with lots of patient's personal belongings left in their rooms. stuff like christmas cards and pictures of their kids. i had a heavy feeling of sadness while in there, masked by the excitment of exploration.
thank you so much for the complements. glad you enjoy my pictures.

That's really haunting and cool. I've always wanted to check out an abandoned psyche ward.

great pictures!

I always wanted to go in there before I moved but never had the nerve to go alone. THe thing I miss about the Ann Arbor area is that there are so many interesting abandoned buildings.

Thanks for sharing.

(just had to use this icon) hehe :D

HAHA! LOVED the escape button! And did you look at any of the files? Anything confidential.. ??

[info]ugly_one

July 18 2005, 20:22:20 UTC 6 years ago

yes we did look through some of the files. there were lots of different types of stuff. most im sure were confidential. the incident reports was the best find though. 1000's of pages of reports, detailing fights between patients, and/or staff. one talked about a patient who put putty in his ear and it got stuck. lots of very interesting stuff.

What's with all the abandoned Psych hospitals in the Ypsilanti area? =) I would be extremely interested in checking some of these places out. Any details on the locations? Thanks!
