I have driven by this place many times and finally decided to check it out this weekend.

A for sale sign on the front window... this place had lots of holes in the ceiling and floors though so I don't imagine it will be opening for business anytime soon again.

Upstairs was a small living area.

I don't want to know what goes on in here...

And up a second flight of stairs is a cute tiny room with windows all around and access to the windmill.

A view of downtown Wheeling and the Ohio River.

Access to the motorized windmill.

And the basement...

What a great place that must have been at one time.

Scary about the graffiti. :(

I pass the exit to Wheeling everytime I go on the WV turnpike. Small world. :)

I'd guess from the cars it was around '95. I didn't take it.

This is a beautiful little building with a rather incredible view, considering. It's really sad that it fell into such disrepair.

cool. Wheeling is so full of artifacts of days gone by. you can see it in the glassware, lampshades, and of course the architecture.
I remember a giant coke bottle somewhere in that town...

If that's where I'm remembering, it was a giant beer bottle, just as you came into Elm Grove. It's outside a bar---or at least it was when I still lived there in 1994.

Beautiful. The living area looks so cozy. If you ignore the creepy graffiti, I mean.

Yikes, that graffiti is majorly disturbing. I crave that map of the world and the Tiffany lamps for my own, though! So many neat treasures!

I was born and raised in Wheeling and used to walk past the Windmill on daily trips from town to Woodsdale, when I was younger of course....lol

The first time I walked past this building, I believe it was a private home, then an Insurance Agency (I think) bought it. I moved from Wheeling sometime around 1995 because of work. I didn't know that they had a bar in there.

Wish I had the money to buy and restore this place. I'd change it back to a residence and live in it. It was beautiful back in the early 80's and 90's. Still looks to be in great shape, except for the interior.
