Nike Site S-13/14

One day, my brother came to me telling me of a new and interesting place that he found just a few miles away. The location used to be a Nike Missile Base up until 1974, when it was used for several years NEVAC work study programs, and now owned by the Lake Washington School District.

I'm not sure if it had been turned into a school, but all of the equipment is still in one of the buildings as well as welding stations and chemical showers. School chairs litter the floors along with the equipment.

It has since been abandoned for decades and is, like many abandoned places, on private property. The buildings are in quite a state of disrepair and are a bit dangerous to explore at this point, but it is frequently visited (judging by the graffiti) by other people. It feels very eerie to walk around in it and it gives me an awful knot in the pit of my stomach, but what a fantastic place it is.

And here is one of the magazines that used to contain and fire the Nike missiles. The equipment is still in the magazines, though the missiles are not (of course). The magazines were purposefully flooded before the abandonment.

The opening to the magazine.

Flooded. I've heard rumors that people scuba dive in these.
