abandoned train tunnel - john forrest national park, western australia

greetings all...

just joined the community and throught i should post something of interest...

this tunnel was built in the 1880's (or around that time, i can't remember the exact year) and goes right through the side of a hill.  it's about 1 kilometre long, and even in the daylight it's difficult to see the other end of the tunnel once you are inside...

sorry the pictures are pretty bad, we went out a few nights ago and tried to take some shots in the dark...

the tunnel has little alcoves all along its length, so that if there were people working on the track or tunnel and a train was coming, they would squeeze into these spaces in the wall to stop themselves being hit by the train...

because it is in the side of a hill, the tunnel is now always wet and dripping inside...  quite spooky, but beautiful nonetheless...

unfortunately, i can only offer two fairly poor pictures of each entrance, but you get the idea...
