Not very many pictures, and this is my first actual post! It's on the way to Hawks Nest State Park, which is one of the best places in West Virginia to experience nature at its finest.

The last time I went here, the water mill still had the old wheel, unfortunately this appears to have vanished now, but it still is beautiful, to me. I couldn't find a way inside though without trying to go through the water!

Ridgecrest wasn’t always a military community. Before WW2, the city was a center of mining and ore processing support. In fact, several ghost towns lay within the bombing ranges north of the airfield. My trip took my south so no need for concern. WW2 and war requirements shut down many mines that weren’t producing products for the war effort. Gold and silver were chief among the close closed ventures.

Just to the south of Ridgecrest are scores of horizontal thrust and vertical shaft mines. Most close to US Highway 395 are closed up for safety. The homes where the miners lived are slowly rotting away in the harsh desert weather. I’ve passed these places so many times, so after I left the Root Cellar, I had to finally stop and check what’s left of them out.
