High Bridge Water Tower, Washington Heights NY

The High Bridge Water Tower was built in 1872 and was used to equalize water pressure from the Croton Aqueduct. It has not been in use since 1898 but was re-opened this weekend for a tour, because of this i dont know if this constitutes it as abandoned, but i wanted to share the picturs even though they arent the best.

As I am going to be out of town starting the 21th of this month I'm going to miss most of the fun Halloween festivities.

That said I decided it would be best to get a group of friends together for this upcoming Friday (the 13th) and so an early night of scare and fun.

I need your help. Do you know of any extra spooky places (preferably hospitals, or asylums that we can actually get into) that is within a couple of hours driving distance of Fredericksburg, VA?

Any suggestions and links and directions would be greatly appreciated!

Into the mines

(continued from last week)

returned to the mine entrance with my tripod and flashlights. I carefully lowered everything down into the hole then carefully placed my feet into it. I lay on my stomach and crawled backwards into the opening. It was about a 45 degree slope of loose gravel and sand from the hole.

I was now facing the doorway which I had been able to see from outside. There were some markings in orange spray paint, and the doorway obviously led to a mining passageway.

I ducked inside the doorway. The passage was about 5 feet in height, making it necessary for me to stoop as I moved through it.

This is the only remaining piece of an old farm building, nearly lost in a bramble patch, not far from where I live in Sun Prairie, WI. The site is being cleared of brush in preparation for commercial development, so the wall fragment is probably not long for this world. Click on the thumbnail for a larger version.
