Istana Woodneuk, Singapore

One of the largest private residences in Singapore, built in the mid 1800s for Sultan Abu Bakar of Johor (Malaya). A fire earlier this year gutted the entire 2nd storey, and last I heard, demolition works have started for the place. Unable to verify this info, but according the newpaper reports, Istana (meaning 'Palace' in Malay') Woodneuk was slated for "redevelopment" from the start anyway. In to what? A condo? A mall? Who knows?

And nobody seems to care.

Rest of the series here.

In it's heyday, it really must have been a jaw-droppingly magnificent place.
