Small-town Alabama

Taken during a visit to a small town in south Alabama this summer. This is a storefront, possibly a pair of storefronts, in the middle of downtown, just a block or two from the public library and police station. There's open businesses on either side.

It amazes me that this place is right in the middle of town like this. But even more baffling is that it's been here for at least three years (that's when I first saw it). No one seems to be in any hurry to do anything whatsoever about it. What's up with that?

Fairway Distillery

We had rainy crap weather all Sunday so instead of traveling we decided to stay local. This distillery is one place I have always meant to get into but never had the chance before. We hit this early on a Sunday morning. I thought the entire place was abandoned but I was very wrong. Only the barrel storage buildings are abandoned along with a couple other "shacks." The main building is still active and possibly still does bottling. This place was the 2nd half the other distillery you see in #1 for about 30 years. I don't believe this place actually produced liquor I believe it was the importing branch of that company. I think barrels of liquor were shipped in from overseas and then bottled here. The big square buildings just held nothing but barrels. There is a main building which I didn't really take pictures of but I'm sure it was for bottling, it may still be.
