Abandoned Places – The Lyric Theatre versus The Alabama Theatre (July 09)

The Lyric Theatre

Without a doubt, my visit to The Lyric in Birmingham has left me with a dilemma. How to show off the beautiful old building, compare it to the restored Alabama and do them justice. In this case, I’m going to take you through the former lobby of the Lyric. When the theatre closed for shows, the lobby area was used as a storefront for many years. The area is now being used as a staging area for the repairs, storage for supplies and equipment. The hope is this will again become the grand entrance to the performing arts venue the landmark trust wants to restore The Lyric to.

Junkyard is out in the middle of no where and it only has cars from the 40s-60s.  A car graveyard, with some of the classiest cars at their prime. I think this junk yard went on for at least a mile. Cars as far as the eye could see. I didn't go too deep into the woods, simply because I was waiting on a crazy old guy with a shotgun/ crazy junkyard dog with sharp teeth. After getting in there and looking at the shape of the cars, I don't think I would have a problem with either. This is a place I will have to venture back to when I have more time, lots of odd cars, my best find was a 67  mustang. Most of the cars were under a foot or more of debris, mainly pine straw. This place is definately a dying breed of junkyards. I didnt see any cars from the 70s on, everything was old.
