First Post: The Metropolitan Hotel - 3 visits (plus a little history)

The town of Asbury Park, NJ has gone through its share of transition throughout its history. While it is becoming more popular (and populated) today, many of the old buildings and hotels that made it truly unique have been torn down to make way for luxury condos and restaurants. While I'm glad to see Asbury putting itself back on the map, it's sad to see the demolition of some old favorites, especially the Metropolitan Hotel, which I only discovered about 7 years ago. I fell in love with it instantly.

The Metropolitan has been around since at least the early 1900s, and in the 1960s, a "Motel" was added on the East side of the Hotel. It was all closed in 1989 and the property has changed hands quite a few times since then. It was demolished in March 2008, and to the best of my knowledge, the land is still vacant.

This postcard (from Side O' Lamb) is likely from the 1950s. (Sorry these photos are so small. I can't seem to make them any bigger. *blush*)

Unbeknownst to me at the time, I shot a similar angle in November 2007, the last time I saw the Metropolitan standing:

St. Peter

This house is located in the St. Peter/Augsburg Illinois area in Fayette County. A friend of mine who lives out in the area told me that the old man who lived in this house died a few years back and by the look of the house I'm guessing his family started packing up and then for whatever reason stopped. The Barn looked like it was just waiting for the old man to come in and climb onto the tractor....I hope you enjoy, there are tons of pictures...
