Chicago - U.S. Steel South Works

A steel mill operated at this 700-acre site on the south side of Chicago from the 1880's though 1992.  At it's peak, the U.S. Steel facility employed more than 20,000 people. In 1997, all the buildings were razed and the site remains mostly barren, awaiting future development. But apparently there is a plan.

Statue celebrating the former steelworkers and their families.
