Welcome back to Cairo, Illinois....watch your step..

Another shell of a business...

Lots and lots of holes...

What a great view...

This space comes with exposed brick and an old bottle of mustard

Who needs a door?

I was going to take more pictures in this area but I ran into a group of guys having their mid afternoon beers

So, I took one more pic and left

These buildings were some of my favorite from this trip

Beer,Wine,and Liquor

A look down the street

Bass Sales

Of course...this trip wouldn't have been complete without some graffiti..

Door on the floor

A work bench of some sort

Inventory from long ago

Inventory sheets, receipts, and business stuff...

Guessing this was some sort of a hardware store..

Volume 2 of the ever so exciting 1988 zip code directory, soon to be a major motion picture

1986 Version of Screws thru Steel

Stars

switches

Check from 1977

More shelving

The sun was really cooperating with the pictures today, good work sun!

I loved these windwos

Nature will always win

Two different skylights..

Yah...that toilet is pretty disgusting...

Good advice...

Not responsible

giant wooden spool

You can take the green door but you can't take the ruin

Pheingold, drink it.

Don't be jealous of my sweet Toyota...

Couch

The holes in the wall reminded me of a lot less creepier Candy Man

Men, go that way

Hovering above 60

Shelving

A lost Illini shirt

caught some rays..hah....see what I did there?

The building on the end..

Graffiti angel..?

Kilroy Drugs

Green chair..

Rusty Stoker

Boiler

There were a lot of old what seemed to be restaurant booths in the back of this building

Outside of building, made me feel like I was watching Band of Brothers...

Thats it for this trip...I have another installment to come. Once again, I hope you've enjoyed wandering Cairo.

ah ha, Rheingold makes so much more sense...I tried googling it as "pheingold" and couldn't find anything...no wonder.

In that one building there were a few old illini t shirts and a crumbled up illini basketball schedule from the 80s

i have a feeling that is one of the shirt from right before they were known as the flying illini. those were some good years.

and yeah, rheingold is some bad, cheap beer. as in cheap cases that you get about as much back on the bottle deposit as you do for paying for the case. or did when i was at uiuc.

The ol' Flying Illini with Kendall Gill...I was too young to remember it that well, but it sounded like a magical time.

And I'm guessing rheingold was the equivalent of keystone at ol' EIU

we went to the final four that year. oh man, it was amazing to see them play that year. we went to all the games(my parents are season ticket holders) and went to all the tournament games. it was incredible.

yep, i am sure it is the same thing. or close enough.

That first graffiti area would have been a really nice little studio apartment do-up...

I can just imagine having a bedroom up top, and a little bathroom of the back room and the kitchen at the back and heaps of living space at the front.

Sigh.

Awesome photos! Lol I like "Men go that way". It must be fun being able to walk into everywhere and explore. I wanted to go into the factories I was exploring but I thought I heard kids in there so I didn't in the end.

I can't believe any fair-sized US town can get this bad, without there being some Zombie involvement.

I always love your photos - and your captions. :)

Interesting place for those guys to have a mid-afternoon beer. Not my idea of a drinking atmosphere, but to each his own!

Thanks for your kind words!

Yah...the entire town looked like it was a place to enjoy some shady mid afternoon beers..

I guess "Historic" is an even more appropriate word now than when the sign was made.

Also, "Screws thru Steel" probably WILL be made into a motion picture, if it hasn't already! Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more!

Also also, I am totally jealous of your sweet Toyota.

Great shots! I loved the one "Nature will always win". Also, I see you have one of a thermostat. I always grab one in places I've found. I should the ones I have on here. Anyhow, loved them. The light was awesome!

Thank you! I think the nature will always win shot might be my favorite...I'm going to post the rest either tonight after work or tomorrow, depends on if procrastination defeats me or not.

The Bass Sales building is stunning. Also love the stars. Funny that you found an intact check in such good condition. The things that survive are weird.
