In my personal journal, I mentioned having gotten over to Victorville on business. Now understand, Victorville was once a military town. George AFB (now a civilian field) lies up the road to the north. Other former military compounds exist around the community in other directions. Given this history, it’s easy to understand that when this large employer reduced operations and closed bases, the community contracted. There are dozens of empty facilities, homes and businesses all around this town. The pleasure of the journey was in spotting no less than 5 abandoned sites or ruins close to the highway. My kids and I stopped to view 2 of these sites (“Poetry House” and “the Ranch”).
The second place we happened upon was what had been a ranch property. Like a ghost rising from the gathering gloom of evening, we barely saw this place in time to turn back and get a few shots. Once again taggers and circle makers had their way with the site and each other’s work. Because the light was fading so badly, I had to manipulate the lighting effects in Brenna’s photos.
